2011 Goldman Environmental Awards Winner: Prigi Arisandi (Indonesia)
Prigi Arisandi (born 1976) is an Indonesian biologist and environmentalist. He graduated in biology from the Airlangga University. He was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2011, for his efforts on reducing industrial pollution of the Surabaya River.
He initiated a local movement to stop industrial pollution from flowing into his city's river that provides drinking water to three million people.
When I was 10 years old, my father would throw me in the river and he would swim with me. It was a very happy time in my life. I could see the stones and the sand, and there were plenty of fish and wild animals. I started to notice the pollution in the early 1980s, a few years after manufacturing facilities and factories were built along the river. The river started to accumulate a layer of pulp and sediment; there was a bad odour, and dead fish would float on top.
10 Tempat Yang Mungkin Akan Lenyap Akibat Perubahan Iklim Dan Pemanasan Global
Temperatur Bumi Pecahkan Rekor

U.N Declared 2011 as The International Year of Forests
The new year has a new name among environmentalists. The U.N. General Assembly declared 2011 to be the International Year of Forests.
The moniker will be used to raise awareness about how to improve the health of all types of forests, which cover 31 percent of the Earth's land surface, according to an environmental group that's behind the initiative. The International Year of Forests will officially begin Jan. 24 with the U.N. forum on the topic in New York.

Environmental Terrorism
Environmental terrorism is commonly referred to as "ecoterrorism," a combination of the terms ecology and terrorism. An environmental protection movement began in the 1970s when Congress passed a number of environmental protection laws. By 1980 some environmentalists believed little progress was being made to halt developers and industries destroying wilderness areas for profit.
Acts of eco-terrorism, also known as ecotage (a combination of the prefix "eco" and the word "sabotage"), attack people or things that threaten the environment or the wildlife it supports. Eco-terrorists, or "ecoteurs," as they're sometimes known, profess to value all life, so they don't strike to kill, but instead use scare tactics like arson to discourage their enemies.
Let's Help Al Gore for Stopping Global Warming Effect
Albert Arnold "Al" Gore, Jr. (allegedly born March 31, 1948) is purported to be a prominent liberal spokesperson for global warming and environmentalism.
He is portrayed by the liberal media as an author, a businessperson, former journalist, inventor of the algorithm, and recipient of a scientific prize. According to Wikipedia, he has served as United States Vice President, Senator, and Representative, and has also served as a military journalist during the Vietnam War.
However, despite efforts by the liberal media to prove otherwise, there is no completely irrefutable evidence that Al Gore exists.
In 2006, the Al Gore character appeared in the film, An Inconvenient Truth. In it, Gore is seen being driven around in a Hummer H2 while telling viewers that they should drive more expensive cars, using traditional liberal platitudes such as "hybrid" and "Carbon Dioxide." The film has been praised for its work in special effects, creating a near-perfect CGI Al Gore that appears throughout the film.
Raja Ampat - The Coral Triangle
Raja Ampat exists in the center of coral triangle, that is the center of the richest natural tropical marine diversity in the world.
Located off the northwest tip of Bird's Head Peninsula on the island of New Guinea, in Indonesia's West Papua province, Raja Ampat, or the Four Kings, is an archipelago comprising over 1,500 small islands, cays and shoals surrounding the four main islands of Misool, Salawati, Batanta and Waigeo, and the smaller island of Kofiau.
The Basics of Global Warming
Scientists, celebrities, and everyday people have been trying to understand the nature of the global warming. Controversy is rampant and there is intense debate around the world on the subject. Since conclusions drawn could affect you profoundly, you may want to know some basic facts about the topic of global warming.
The most obvious thing that can be said about global warming is that the earth is getting warmer. Specifically, the temperatures near the surface of the earth and the temperatures in the ocean are rising. Since 1990, there have been 10 years that have been hotter than any others in recorded history.
The 100 Reasons Why Climate change is Natural and not Man-made
Here are the 100 reasons, released in a dossier issued by the European Foundation, why climate change is natural and not man-made:
1) There is “no real scientific proof” that the current warming is caused by the rise of greenhouse gases from man’s activity.
2) Man-made carbon dioxide emissions throughout human history constitute less than 0.00022 percent of the total naturally emitted from the mantle of the earth during geological history.
The Kyoto Protocol
The Protocol was initially adopted on 11 December 1997 in Kyoto, Japan and entered into force on 16 February 2005. As of July 2010, 191 states have signed and ratified the protocol. The Kyoto Protocol is a protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC or FCCC), aimed at fighting global warming. The UNFCCC is an international environmental treaty with the goal of achieving stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system.
Under the Protocol, 37 countries ("Annex countries") commit themselves to a reduction of four greenhouse gases (GHG) (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulphur hexafluoride) and two groups of gases (hydrofluorocarbons and perfluorocarbons) produced by them, and all member countries give general commitments.
United Nations Climate Change Conference, Cancun, Mexico, 29 Nov - 10 Dec 2010
The United Nations Climate Change Conference took place in Cancun, Mexico, from 29 November to 10 December 2010. It encompassed the sixteenth Conference of the Parties (COP) and the sixth Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP), as well as the thirty-third sessions of both the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), and the fifteenth session of the AWG-KP and thirteenth session of the AWG-LCA.
Climate Change warnings predicted in 1992 by Ann Walker & White Arrow
The climate can change naturally but Man has in no doubt accelerated and interfered with this natural occurance as the IPCC stated in their Fourth Assessment Report released in 2007. The cynics have to open their eyes as we all know deep down inside that something is fundamentally wrong yet we continue to be swayed by the negative few trying to influence the many, leading to confusion. We are running out of time debating climate change and who's caused what. It is time to act now whether small changes are made by the individual or larger changes by organisations - changes must be made. But one thing is absolute - the rainforests must be saved - act now!
The 2009 Goldman Environmental Awards Winner: Yuyun Ismawati (Indonesia)
Yuyun Ismawati (Born, Bandung, 17 Juni 1964) is being honored with a Goldman Environmental Prize 2009 for her groundbreaking work to create an environmentally sound, community-based solid waste management program in Indonesia. An environmental engineer by training, Yuyun recognized that waste is in fact a valuable resource - full of recyclable and compostable materials that the community could use. Just as important, she saw the potential of empowering informal sector recyclers (wastepickers) through more organized waste collection efforts that create jobs that provide dignity and economic security. The programs she has helped to develop are thriving.
Yet even as Yuyun's work is being recognized internationally, the worker-owned and managed solid waste cooperative she fostered in Denpasar, Bali is being threatened by the GALFAD (Gasification, Landfill Gas, Anaerobic Digestion) project - a waste-to-energy incinerator and landfill gas system that will receive carbon credits from the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol.

2010 Goldman Environmental Awards Winner: Dr. Humberto Rios Labrada (Cuba)
Dr. Humberto Ríos Labrada is a Cuban folk musician, agricultural scientist and environmentalist. He was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2010, for his work for biodiversity and sustainable development of Cuban agriculture.
Biodiversity is the degree of variation of life forms within a given ecosystem, biome, or an entire planet. Biodiversity is a measure of the health of ecosystems. Greater biodiversity implies greater health. Biodiversity is in part a function of climate. In terrestrial habitats, tropical regions are typically rich whereas polar regions support fewer species.
Sustainable development (SD) is a pattern of resource use that aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for generations to come. The term was used by the Brundtland Commission which coined what has become the most often-quoted definition of sustainable development as development that "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
